the Duke of Seville, Don Francisco de Borbón Escasany: A Legacy of Nobility, Commitment, and Humanism
Spanish Arab Magazine pays tribute to the memory of Don Francisco de Borbón Escasany, Duke of Seville, who passed away in Madrid on May 20, 2025, at the age of 81. His death leaves a deep void not only within the Spanish nobility but also in the international business and humanitarian spheres, where his influence was both significant and lasting.
A member of one of the most distinguished branches of the House of Bourbon, Don Francisco gracefully combined the heritage of historic nobility with a modern, active, and committed spirit. Educated in Economics in Madrid and in History at the Sorbonne in Paris, he did not limit himself to holding a title; instead, he chose to lead with purpose and impact in the real world.
His professional career included more than three decades at the helm of the financial institution Hill Samuel & Co. in London, followed by senior positions in banking and business entities such as the Miami National Bank and the Cannon Ibero-America group. In Spain, he led pioneering companies in medical technology and financial systems, contributing to economic development with vision and integrity.
However, perhaps the most admirable aspect of his legacy was his humanitarian work. As Grand Master of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, he promoted global charitable projects for over a decade—from the construction of hospitals to aid programs across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. His actions reflected a deep sense of social responsibility, carried out with discretion and generosity.
Don Francisco was also a silent ambassador between cultures, promoting understanding among peoples and dialogue between civilizations. His connection to the Arab world and his support for multicultural initiatives made him a respected figure beyond Spain’s borders.
From these pages, we express our deepest condolences to his family and remember, with respect and admiration, a man who honored his lineage not with words, but with actions—guided by the elegance of intellect, the strength of values, and the nobility of heart.
May Don Francisco de Borbón y Escasany rest in peace. His legacy will remain a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
