Venice Carnival, more than an obsession

On Saturday, February 10th, 2024, Venice dressed in its finest to celebrate the 31st edition of its iconic Carnival, an event that year after year summons enthusiasts from around the world to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of magic, mystery, and splendor. Among the numerous festivities that adorn the city during this season, Il Ballo del Doge stands out as the most exclusive and anticipated carnival ball, an unparalleled event in the global cultural panorama.

Under the artistic direction of Venetian Antonia Sautter, a renowned stylist and luxury event planner, Il Ballo del Doge once again established itself as the epitome of opulence and art. The celebration took place in the dreamlike setting of a Venetian palace, where every detail, from the decoration to the performances, was carefully orchestrated to transport attendees to an era of unprecedented refinement and beauty.

This year, the event kicked off with a welcome show that blended poetry with music, culminating in a vibrant interpretation of the Queen classic «We Will Rock You», a perfect prelude to a night of unforgettable festivities. The dinner, served in a hall adorned with exquisite floral decorations and forest green tones, featured an eight-course menu accompanied by select beverages, culminating in an eight-tier cake from renowned pastry chef Renato Ardovino, in honor of Antonia Sautter’s birthday.

Sautter shared with the international press: «I admit I am obsessed with carnival aesthetics, perhaps because I was born in Venice in February. However, I am sure that art, beauty, and creativity have the great power to spread the good mood and kindness we all need. Carnival is an art, the art of joy.»

The night extended beyond midnight, giving way to an exclusive DJ set by Red Bull and Puerto de Indias, initiating an After-Dinner Party that kept the festive spirit alive until dawn. Among the distinguished guests were Spanish personalities such as the Duchess of Montoro, Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, Narcis Serra, and Kike Sarasola, as well as Soumaya Akbib Betta, president of the Art & Culture Without Borders ACWB foundation.

Il Ballo del Doge is not just a celebration; it’s a statement of Venice’s perpetual fascination with the art of festivity, a tribute to humanity’s ability to create beauty and share joy. In its 31st edition, the Venice Carnival once again reminded us why it remains one of the world’s most dazzling spectacles.
